What is the life expectancy of DeSign Stone?

A DeSign Stone sign should last as long as any aluminum signage product.  The main core of the structure being expanded polystyrene (EPS) will last for decades in its raw form.  Once we encapsulate the EPS structure in a hard shell, polyurethane coating, it is further sealed from the elements, insects, etc.  Finally, the primer coat and high grade exterior latex texture coat is applied.

What is the wind load capacity of DeSign Stone signs?

A Wind load capacity will vary with the size and DeSign intricacies of the sign.  Typically, DeSign Stone structures are 8 feet high or less and have a wide base mounted within 6" of grade, making them even more resistant to high winds.  Our unique "Quick Connect" extruded aluminum sleeves and interlocking extruded aluminum mounting posts are rated at a wind load of 30 psf or a wind of 90 mph.  Using additional sleeves and mounting posts can increase the wind load capacity. 

Are there size limitations and can you make custom shapes?

Currently, signs designed on this site are limited to a total height of 90" (7.5'). If you require a larger sign, please contact us. While there is no tangible size limitation, certain sizes may require additional aluminum sleeves and mounting posts to insure structural integrity.  In addition, certain sizes may have to be shipped in 2 or more pieces because of common carrier constraints.  Custom shaped signs are easily designed using this online DeSign tool.  This site offers a large selection of custom sign shapes without the wait or expense associated with custom sign DeSigns. 

How easy is installation?

DeSign Stone affords the easiest EPS sign installation in the industry.  Our unique "Quick Connect" system uses 4-5/16 (4-1/8"i.d.) extruded aluminum sleeves with 4" aluminum mounting posts.  The two extrusions interlock at any desired length, are much stronger than PVC tubing, and lock into place using a simple thumb screw.  No messy adhesives or expanding foams are required; simple insert posts lock in place and the sign is ready to install.  If desired, the sign can be removed for changes or replacement without digging up the footer or cutting the posts.  Download an installation sheet from www.howardindustries.com.

What is the warranty?

The DeSign Stone warranty is for 1 year and covers any defect in materials or workmanship.

Are they available in a variety of textures?

We presently offer only one texture, which is our standard sprayed stucco-like finish.

What type of graphics are available and how are they applied?

Sign graphics generally consist of dimensional HDU letters or logos, aluminum panels or DSS-75 changeable tenant panels with vinyl graphics.  Also, UL listed illuminated cabinets can be installed inside your DeSign Stone structure using our HED I-12 and Twin Hinge Directory sign systems.  All graphics should be applied with adhesive. 

How durable is the finish and is it fire retardant?

Futura's STYROTHANE is the initial spray-applied hard, protective shell which seals the foam while preserving the slightest details and contours of the sign.  This tough coating provides structural protection against damage from impact, compression, abrasion, chemicals, insects and moisture.  In extreme outdoor applications, STYROTHANE has years of proven protection against the effects of thermal cycling, weather and acid rain.

Masterwall's SUPERIOR FINISH is the final color and texture coat for the DeSign Stone sign system.  Applied over STYRO-BOND 405 waterborne flexible primer, it provides an extremely durable "sprayed" consistent texture in a variety of colors.  The aggregate is a sanitized acrylic bead which will not promote mildew, fungus growth, or discoloration after installation. 

These two, high quality coatings, combine to ensure your DeSign Stone sign will be a long-lasting investment for your sign customer.

What about fire testing?
